Beyond the ordinary
Our Story: Born Out of Love and Necessity
Friends Along a Path was founded by parents who reached a breaking point. Like so many families navigating the world with autistic and neurodivergent loved ones, we were tired. We were tired of watching our children be left out of activities, tired of the judgment from strangers who didn't understand, and tired of the constant battle to find spaces where our families truly belonged.
Instead of waiting for the world to change, we decided to build the community our families deserved.
We started this organization to bridge the gap between childhood and adulthood, creating a lifelong sanctuary where neurodivergent individuals are celebrated—not just tolerated—and where parents finally have a village of support.
What We Stand For
We don’t believe in fixing who our participants are. We believe in changing the environment around them so they can thrive. Our core philosophy is built on three pillars:
-
Radical Acceptance: Our events are 100% judgment-free zones. Stimming, vocalizing, using communication devices, or needing to take a sensory break are completely natural parts of human diversity here. Come exactly as you are.
-
Lifelong Growth: We support individuals across their entire lifespan, from childhood through adulthood. Whether it’s learning a new game or mastering independent life skills, we meet every individual at their developmental level.
-
Whole-Family Support: A neurodivergent individual thrives when their caregivers thrive. We wrap our arms around the entire family by providing parents with the trusted resources, practical information, and peer connection they need to navigate the journey.
What We Do
Through our community-led initiatives, we focus on making daily life richer, more fun, and more accessible for everyone:
-
Fun & Inclusive Activities: Controlled, sensory-friendly recreational and social events designed so everyone can participate and make genuine friends.
-
Practical Life Skills: Targeted programs for youth and adults focused on building autonomy, confidence, self-advocacy, and daily living skills.
-
Parent & Caregiver Resources: Educational workshops, resource navigation assistance, and peer mentoring to help families access the support they deserve.
"Nothing about us without us."
We are proudly led by the lived experiences of parents, advocates, and neurodivergent individuals. We are a community built by the people who live it every day. You are not alone on this journey—welcome home.
